Gokaisho
Go club/Go salon
Gokaisho refers to a Go club, a physical venue where Go enthusiasts gather to play, improve their skills, and engage in discussions about the game. These clubs have existed for centuries, providing a social and competitive environment for players of all levels.

At a traditional Go club, you’ll find multiple playing areas with tables and Go boards, where players can engage in games or participate in game reviews led by stronger players or professionals. Many clubs also offer lessons, making them welcoming spaces for beginners and advanced players alike.
Go clubs come in many forms. Some are casual and open to everyone, focusing on recreational play and socializing. Others are more formal, catering to ranked players with high-level games and structured study sessions. You might even find Go clubs in community centers, cafés, or online platforms, blending tradition with modern convenience.
Historically, Go clubs used to play a vital role in the development of professional players. They were often the places where masters trained their disciples, and many legendary players honed their skills in these clubs before joining professional institutions like the Nihon Ki-in. Today, Go clubs continue to preserve the tradition of in-person play while embracing digital tools to connect players worldwide.

During his last visit to Korea, Vadim visited several Go clubs, experiencing firsthand the vibrant culture and camaraderie they offer. You can catch a glimpse of a couple of these clubs in the video.
