Nakade refers to a move played within an opponent’s large eye space to prevent the formation of two separate eyes, effectively threatening the life of the group.

An example of the basic nakade

A successful nakade can determine the fate of a group, leading to its capture if it fails to form two eyes. Certain configurations, such as the “bulky five” or “bent Three,” are classic examples where nakade can be effectively employed. Executing a nakade requires precise reading to ensure that the move conclusively prevents the opponent from creating two eyes, taking into account possible responses and variations.
