Double hane

Nidanbane, or double hane, is a tactical sequence in Go where a player plays two hane in a row on the opponent’s adjacent stones.

This strategy can be especially powerful when it puts pressure on a weak group or builds strong shape while disrupting the opponent’s structure. However, nidanbane requires careful reading — overuse or playing it in an unfavorable position may lead to over-concentration or vulnerability.

In historical and modern games alike, the double hane is recognized as a sharp and decisive move, often shifting the local balance of power when executed correctly.
