Large knight's move

Ogeima refers to a move where a stone is placed three points along one axis and one point along the perpendicular axis from an existing stone, forming an extended L-shape. This move, known as the large knight’s move, provides a broader reach than the standard knight’s move (keima), allowing for rapid development and increased board influence.

Strategically, ogeima is utilized in attacking to exert pressure on the opponent’s groups by swiftly approaching or surrounding them, and in defending to enclose corners or establish frameworks with a balance between territory and influence.

However, this shape is even more prone to cutting than keima, due to its larger gap and looser connection. Proper reading and additional support stones are often necessary to ensure stability when employing ogeima in tactical situations.
