Double approach

Ryou-gakari is a term in Go that refers to a double approach, typically involving two separate approach moves against one corner enclosure. This technique is sometimes useful in the opening when a player wants to apply early pressure to a corner or deny the opponent a peaceful corner enclosure.

The play is considered aggressive and proactive, as it may disrupt the opponent’s initial plans. A well-timed double approach can lead to favorable fighting positions, particularly if the opponent cannot defend the corner effectively.

Despite its potential, double approach can be risky if not supported by additional stones, as it may overextend the player’s stones or lead to weak groups if the opponent handles the defense properly.
