Slide; Sliding move

Suberi is a move typically played on the second line of the board, sliding underneath an opponent’s stone from the third line. It is used to secure territory near the edge or escape from tight formations. The suberi is one of the most simple yet vital side plays in the game, especially near the corners.

The most common form is the knight’s move slide, which strikes a balance between safety and progress. Longer slides, while gaining more ground, often carry risk due to their looseness. Timing is critical — a well-placed one can solidify influence or undermine the opponent’s position.
