Tobi
Importance: ★☆☆
Jump
Tobi is a fundamental move that allows a player to quickly extend their position while maintaining flexibility. Unlike direct extension, a jump does not establish immediate contact with the previous stone but still influences the surrounding area.
Types of Tobi
- One-Point Jump (Ikken Tobi) – Extends one space forward, balancing safety and mobility.
- Two-Point Jump (Niken Tobi) – Covers more distance but may be vulnerable to an opponent’s attack.
Jumps are commonly used in the middle of the board to advance toward the center, where they provide mobility and control. On the sides, jumps serve different purposes; moves along the edge are called extensions, rather than jumps, as they focus on securing territory rather than expansion.
