Very useful the L shape and the explanation was enjoyable but there was no difference between your solution in the video and the tsumego solution on the site meaning you did not give us a rule or an idea or something we can memorize or know so that without calculating all this mess we know for example how to find the critical point without calculating just by looking we rely on shapes or other things
I’m not sure which bit of the video you’re referring to. Possibly the quiz just after 4:40. I think the ideas here of stopping white forming an eye at R2 and reducing eye space should be familiar. And it turns out the order doesn’t matter here. I’m not sure there’s really more to go through. Although he is assuming you’ll do some work yourself to internalize it.
The video does run through the two vital points of the L+1 group rather quickly, probably because it’s revision from Vadim’s course. For the **S**trong S-shaped L+1 group, jump to the often-key 1,2 point on the first line. For the other weaker group, stay close, making eye-shape with the 2-2 point. I found this video helpful, as it added the idea of considering these same vital points first when one of these L+1 shapes is there, but with more mess. Without this tip, I’d often be trying more points before finding the answer.
How 6 die and you live with them 🙂
As the video says, the six stones weren’t blocked on the second line, which is assumed by the proverb. So there’s no contradiction. See also: https://senseis.xmp.net/?SixDieButEightLive
