You probably know which moves in the endgame are the biggest and what the difference between sente and gote is. If this sounds a little confusing, you can start with our course on the basics of endgame. But do you know how to count the value of a move down to fractions of a point? What is the difference between sure gain and expected local result? And how do sente or reverse sente influence those values? If not, then join Stanislaw on this technical endgame hiking trip and learn all the nerdy details to surprise your friends with your precise knowledge.
Suitable for: 5k – 5d. For those who already know all the basics of endgame.

It all seems to be good stuff, but surely the simplest way to count the value of the 1st line hane in the first lecture of the course proper is (for a gote move) 2 × area-swing - 2 . Two points switch from Black’s area to White’s, so the area swing is 2, so the value is 2×2-2 = 2. This limits the visualisation needed to the smallest possible region.
