In this course you will learn the rules of Go in all of their simplicity and splendor.

The rules of Go could in fact be presented in a single video lesson. This course however has a different purpose. It is meant to make sure you can play your first games even without a teacher standing over your shoulder. Not only will you learn Go rules but you will also acquire some basic Go skills. All of this will help you have more fun playing Go and maybe even get your first wins.

After learning the rules of Go, we recommend trying to play a few games (on a 9×9 board) and then proceed to the next course — The Fundamentals of Go on 13×13. Also take a look at this beginner’s guide.

It was very fun! I had the interest for Go just last night and went to learn about it, this course was not only informational but very fun. I'm excited to start playing the game!

I learned things about Go from doing (and re-doing) the exercises that I thought I understood before. And now I actually understand! Thanks!

Really useful intro to the game of Go!

I especially appreciated the advice at the end about the best places to play go, those resources were very helpful as a beginner. I wish there had been a few more beginner 9x9 games with his commentary because it was helpful.

Good course for beginners

There were a couple moments where maybe the detail wasn't fully clear but overall a solid course that imparts a good understanding!

I liked the pacing and examples. I feel like I understand what I'm doing now, and I'm starting to be able to see liberties and territory and learn why things happen. I found the interactive quiz portions really useful, and I appreciated that, although I was told if my answer was wrong, I wasn't given the solution until I asked, which let me think things through and work out the problem.

Accessible, engaging, fun! I took the introductory course on my own and again with the little girls I babysit and they adored it. Thanks to you an 8 year old, an 11 year old and a 26 year old can have fun together by learning a 3000 year old game!

The interactive exercises in the middle of videos are a great way to stay focused and not get overwhelmed by theory, really impressive format that I'll definitely recommend to anyone wanting to get into go.

This course does a fantastic job of explaining the basics of Go in a clear, approachable way. The lessons are well-paced, easy to follow, and build logically. As someone new to the game, I appreciated how everything was broken down without being overly simplified. By the end, I felt confident enough to start playing. A solid, well-designed introduction for anyone looking to learn Go.

The explanations and graphics make things very clear and the humor and quizzes keep the course engaging. A great introduction to go!

A fantastic introduction to the game. The creators of this course clearly understand what to teach complete beginners and what to leave out so that they can start having fun playing 9x9 games. I also appreciate how they are able to communicate how complex and beautiful Go will eventually get, but in a way that piques the learner's interest rather than overwhelms them. Very well done.
