Probe / Probing move

Probing move (Yosumi or Yosumiru) refers to a move made not to gain immediate advantage, but to observe the opponent’s reaction. It plays an important role in shaping strategic direction and can be especially powerful in unclear positions.

This concept aligns with broader Go strategy: understanding before acting. By encouraging a response from the opponent, a player practicing yosumi gains insight without full commitment. This can limit risk while increasing flexibility across the board.
