Uchikomi é a invasão profunda no território do adversário.
Diferente das reduções superficiais, o uchikomi busca viver ali mesmo ou provocar uma luta de grande escala.
A palavra uchikomi (打ち込み) significa literalmente “golpear para dentro” ou “cravar”, metáfora certeira para essa manobra tática agressiva. O termo quase não aparece fora da literatura técnica de Go, mas continua comum em japonês.
Historically, uchikomi also refers to a system of handicap adjustment. Before the advent of komi (compensation points for White), players of different strengths would follow a structured handicap system. When a player fell four wins behind, they would be “beaten down” (uchikomi) to the next handicap level—moving from tagaisen (even games) to sen-ai-sen (Black twice in three games), or from sen-ai-sen to josen (always Black), and so on.
