So, is 9 the largest handicap? And handicap is only for kyu ranks?
Yes, 9 stones is the traditional max handicap. But while handicap is most common among kyu players, it can technically be used at any level, even between dan players if the rank difference is large enough. Though in practice, serious dan-level games are almost always even.
