This course is the perfect starting point for beginners who have just learned the rules of Go and are looking to understand the basics of strategy and tactics on a 13×13 board. It’s an essential foundation that will also prepare you for playing on the more complex 19×19 board.
Once you’re comfortable with the material in this course, we recommend progressing to the more advanced Deeper into the game of Go on 19×19, which is the final course of our elementary trilogy designed to guide you from not knowing the rules to mastering the fundamentals and reaching a solid 12-10 kyu level.

It took me years to find the great Jeremy Silman, and Yasser Sierawan, the chess teachers that finally made chess make sense to me. It took me a youtube video from gomagic to find the right go teachers. I love the way this course, and the others I've taken so far, are presented. They're giving me a base of understanding that I'll be able to build upon as I continue to learn.

Covered a wide array of stuff and taught a lot of tactical concepts. Started seeing the results in game immediately. The shape chapter was extremely abstract though.

Very useful and beginner friendly
I am about 70% done with this course at the time of writing. My playing has improved so much already and thanks to the skills I learned here I've been able to win several games IRL and on OGS. The material is extremely well presented and the interactive quizzes are wonderful reinforcement of the lessons.

13x13 is a nice board size to demonstrate both tactics and strategy, unlike 9x9 which feels mostly tactical or 19x19 which is much more strategy heavy.
Really well structured for beginners to learn the basics. Explanations, videos and lessons are well rounded and built upon each other nicely. I liked all of it

Great information! My only gripe is with the XP haha. In a course where you're (in a sense) supposed to make mistakes, a single misstep resetting your XP bonus is qute harsh and a bit deflating. I was ultimately doing my best to ignore the mechanic and just focus on learning Go but it's tough not to play the meta-game! 😛
