In this course you will learn the rules of Go in all of their simplicity and splendor.

The rules of Go could in fact be presented in a single video lesson. This course however has a different purpose. It is meant to make sure you can play your first games even without a teacher standing over your shoulder. Not only will you learn Go rules but you will also acquire some basic Go skills. All of this will help you have more fun playing Go and maybe even get your first wins.

After learning the rules of Go, we recommend trying to play a few games (on a 9×9 board) and then proceed to the next course — The Fundamentals of Go on 13×13. Also take a look at this beginner’s guide.

Great first course, already had watched most if not all of the videos on YouTube, but the quizzes and atari-go bot play were great for reinforcement. Have already recommended to a couple friends.

Very well done! Vadim made it easy to learn a very difficult game with the help of Go Magic. I enjoyed the first unit very much. Thank you!

I really enjoyed this course. First I watched it on YouTube, then I went through it again on this site along with the tasks. I will recommend it to anyone who wants to start playing Go.

Merci.

Really good introduction!

I have been familiar with Go for many years…. I belong to the American Go Association, attended a Go Club, played regularly, read many books… and always felt overwhelmed and lost! Your simple, direct lessons, the examples, and quizzes feel like a great break through! For the first time in years, I actually enjoy playing and feel like I understand what is happening and why! THANK YOU!!
