The Beginning Of Magic — Online Tournament

Two awesome Go communities — BeginnerGo and GoMagic — combine their power to bring you The Beginning of Magic Tournament! We strive to make a tournament that will be exciting for everybody from confident beginners to experienced players. This tournament is FREE to enter, and we prepared awesome prizes in different categories. The final round will be hosted on Twitch by the Go Magic team who will offer the commentary.


This will be a single elimination tournament. Games are to be played with appropriate handicap, which will be the difference between the players’ ranks. For example, a match between a 4k and a 6k would be played with 2 stone handicap.

Games will be played on OGS, with the following settings required:

Rules: Japanese
Game Speed: Live
Time: 30 minutes + 30 sec x 5


Registration is closed.

Games in Rounds 1 to 4 (i.e. the round of 32, the round of 16, the quarter-finals and semi-finals) can be played at any time, as agreed to by the players, as long as they are played by the following due dates:

Round 1: 12th September
Round 2: 17th September
Round 3: 21st September
Round 4: 24th September
Round 5 (the final) will be live streamed and played on 25th September at 12 PM EST.

Blood for the blood God! For the biggest kill. 

Zen Master Award
Give them whatever they want and confidently win anyway! For the most peaceful game.

Terrific Blunder Award 
Throw the laptop out of the window and get a prize for the biggest blunder.

Surgeon Blade Award
You don’t need more than 0.5 points to win! For extremely close games.

Mighty Underdog Award 
For a win in the match with more than 3 stones rank difference.

The Beginning of Magic Runner Up
For making it to the final round.

The Beginning of Magic Champion 
For winning the tournament.
